About the Author
Brian Morgan, CCIE No. 4865, is a consulting systems engineer with Cisco specializing in collaboration technologies. In over 20 years in the networking industry, he has performed in a number of roles, including pre- and post-sales engineering, network consultant, Certified Cisco Systems Instructor, and engineering director for a telecommunications company. When he is not spending time with family and friends, Brian enjoys working with local high school and college students participating in local Cisco Network Academy programs, as well as STEM and FIRST Robotics programs in North Texas.

Jason Ball is married to his beautiful bride of 18 years, Siobhan Ball. They have two children, Isaac and Maureen. Both children have caught his passion for the technology industry. They are both involved in a robotics program through FIRST Lego League, with his wife coaching both their teams. Through this program, they learn skills like programming, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and other skills like gracious professionalism. Outside of this program, his daughter is getting into software design, and his son is taking courses through North Carolina State University
called Young Engineers, offered for children between 12 and 18 years of age, where he is furthering his IT skills.

Jason was a slow starter in the IT industry. His beginnings date back to 1989 with an opportunity to work with audio/video systems. In 1993, his focus changed to public speaking. He traveled around for many different types of speaking engagements, encountering groups of varying ages. In 2003, he was introduced to multicast media. This unfamiliar and exciting opportunity rekindled a desire for involvement in technology. In 2009, a new opportunity presented itself. Jason was recently unemployed when a connection with Scott Waschler, an employee at TANDBERG, opened a door to contract as a technical trainer. In May 2010, Cisco purchased TANDBERG, and a new world of technology emerged. This is a journey that will never end, and Jason is continually hungry to learn all he can and to share that knowledge with others who are also eager to learn.

Jason currently works for Compass Business Solutions, a Learning Partner of Cisco. Compass specializes in teaching Collaboration-related courses, including CIVND 2. He holds many certifications, most of which are with Cisco. His current certifications with Cisco include CCNA Route/Switch, CCDA, CCSI, CCNA Video, CCNA Voice, CCNA Collaboration, CCNP Voice, CCNP Collaboration, CSE, LVCI, BACI, Cisco Video Network Specialist, and TVS Certified Specialist.

The book is good but Beware you don't get any exam prep test or any bonus content

The Digital download is very good but in the future I would not advice the digital download. This was my first one and I'm studying to complete my CCNA Collaboration Cert but what I found is you don't get any of the additional content or practice test to help you. I followed the information on the back and registered with Cisco press but there was no Companion Content files or Bonus Content as the ebooks leads you to believe. What you do get is Cisco trying to sell you test prep exams for $35.
Next time I'll just order the hardcover book and I'll at least get the Pearson DVD with the practice exam on it like with all my other Cisco Hardcover books.

This is an excellent resource in exploring the development of bulimia. The author looks at theory and empirical research through his own contributions and the contributions of other scholars in the field.

Much of the chapter articles stem from the 1990 Ken Psychology Forum.

The chapters range over many developmental factors and consider questions and possibilities in terms of developing bulimia. It's a book that is useful for professionals in the field and as a text book for graduate students.

I particularly appreciated looking at the questions asked and the range of possibilities to think about in terms of approaching answers.

Plants in the Service of Empire

This book offers an invaluable analysis of the ways in which plants and knowledge about them have been employed towards the expansion of the British empire. Amateur and later professional botanists associated with the Kew Botanical Gardens made relocating plants from one continent to the next possible through innovation and enhanced understanding of the plants' systems, taxonomy and ecology. This knowledge and related inventions for transporting plants made it possible for the British to grow rubber in SE Asia, tea in Ceylon, coffee in Latin America, sugar in Brazil, etc. This movement of plants around the world were further aided by the valuable discovery of quinine for curing fevers and malaria which meant that the cinchona tree from Peru and Bolivia facilitated the penetration of colonial empire further into the African and Asian continents. This book is carefully researched and beautifully narrated.

An excellent, eye-opening history

I stumbled across this book while doing research for a master's thesis that dealt with, of all things, the history of paleontology and the Peking man digs in China. I found it eye-opening and fascinating. Through showing the history of the British Royal Botanical Gardens, the author manages to teach a great deal about the rise of Europe and the West, Colonialism, science, agriculture and economic production throughout the British empire, and the world at large, up to modern times. Of special interest to me was the intertwining of science and economic exploitation in colonialized nations of the time. I consider this book remarkable in that it taught me more than if I had read five similar books.

Carry on Soldiering

This is fifth book I have read by Evelyn Waugh. I have come to appreciate his style of writing and his style of humor. Both of those reasons would justify, in my opinion, reading any and all of his novels. However, for those expecting a lot more, the author doesn't always deliver. That is the case of "Men at Arms". I came away wondering what the point of the book was meant to be. I also came away wondering where all of the emotion behind the advent and early days of WWII were. Maybe the author, who lived through that time, gave us a better view of reality than the Winston Churchill "Finest Hour" image that we all hold. Then again, I don't want to criticize this book, or any book, for not being what it never intended to be. What we do get is a humorous look at a collection of individuals coming together to become British officers from scratch. The various ways they act, react, and interact is what makes the book enjoyable. The main character, Guy Crouchback, comes from a somewhat fallen aristocratic family and feels the need to make something of himself as war seems imminent. Being in his early 30's makes it difficult for him to find his spot until he meets up with an old associate who gets him into a newly forming brigade. To try and explain any more of the plot might make it seem dull. In fact, it moves along well; not because of action but because of the interaction. Guy Crouchback is like all of Waugh's main characters that I have come across so far; they have a certain detachment from what's happening around them. That aspect gives for a keener insight but can tend to leave the reader a bit detached as well. If you've read Waugh before then you know what you're getting in. If not, this may not be the book to start with. I'd suggest "A Handful of Dust" instead.

Gee's Bend Girl

A young girl in Gee's Bend, Alabama makes her first Quilt of Gee's Bend quilt. From picking out the cloth for memories, to using all of every scrap, to puzzling the picture, to telling a story, to feeling the colors and painting a poem with fabric, this quilt is a story of determination, courage, strength, emotion and family. As the young girl says when she completes her first quilt, "Quilts are about me, where I live, and the people who have been here for generations." Children ages 5-8 will appreciate this book about Gee's Bend and its now-famous tradition of quilting.

This is a beautiful book about young girl who learns to quilt and the importance of the work to her family and community!

Gee's Bend was one of those old time, out of the way places that no one had ever heard of except maybe the people who lived there. A long, long time ago it was a place where there were plantations. The white slave owners ruled the roost so to speak, but after the Civil War the slaves became tenant farmers and later became proud owners of the land. It was a place where things didn't change much, including the way quilts were made. It was a community that remained hidden away, unchanged until rediscovered more than a hundred years later.

Little girls often were out of sight, quietly listening, underneath the quilting frame while their elders worked. Baby Girl remembered "the warm brown faces of [her] mama, grandma, and great-gran as they sewed, talked, sang, and laughed" above her. All the quilts had memories. Her Mama told her that "cloth has a memory." The quilts were pieced together from the clothing of family members. The day soon came when Baby Girl would be ready to make her own quilt. To the women of Gee's Bend this was a rite of passage. Baby Girl's cousin Ashlyn, from New York thought that was too country and nonsensical, but Baby Girl knew differently. Many of the town's quilts became museum pieces, but hers was one that she would lovingly create and use.

This is a beautiful creative nonfiction story of a young girl who learns to quilt and the importance of the work to her family and community. The story is interspersed with dollops of history about Gee's Bend and our country's black leadership passed down by Baby Girl's elders. It's a wonderful book to read about the heritage of our country and its traditions and discuss your family history with your own child!

Enlightening and engaging

As a quilter and sewing instructor, I look for books that will capture children's interest in sewing. I have a special interest in the quilts of Gee's Bend, and this book was just as interesting for me to read as it was for the children. younger kids are captivated by the colorful illustrations, and older kids can follow the story and learn some of the history of the quiltmakers' community and families. I highly recommend this book to those who want to share their love of sewing and quilting with younger generations.
