Mostly academic value, good for beginners

This is a good beginner/intermediate book if you are a student of aircraft maintenance engineering, or just graduated from a maintenance engineering college. It can serve as a good overview of standard scenarios in aircraft maintenance but it is not a comprehensive resource, nor does it try to be. The book didn't give me much practical information i can use in my daily work, so i would say it is mostly academic, but nonetheless usable and valuable if you are new to this line of work. I bought this book when i was in college, and i am now working in this field (2,5 years) as a scheduled/unscheduled maintenance planner, both short and long term.
I work in a EASA Part-M & Part 145 maintenance organization which is owned by an airline, so it's not a standalone MRO. My job is to take care of our own fleet of aircraft (A320 & Q400), monitor the due lists, plan and coordinate maintenance activities with other departments, produce work orders, work packages and supplemental documentation, and so on. We serve 3rd party customers as well. The thing you have to have in mind is that each airline is different and each individual aircraft has its own quirks and its own story (utilization, schedule dynamic, many short hops vs long haul etc..) and how it translates into your daily routine. This is something you can't really learn from a book, only by experience.
So to summarize this review, this book will get you in the right direction in terms of what you can expect if you start working in this industry, and can serve as a good base to build on when you start learning and doing the actual work that is specific to your organization.

Every aspect of maintenance management in one book! Excellent and easy language too!

I had to prepare for an interview after graduation in Aeronautical ENGG. For the position of Planning Engineer in a reputable airline. My limited experience and knowledge in the maintenance management was bothering me and I was all over the Internet searching for books and short listed a no. Of books to buy. Then I came across this book and was amazed to see all information I wanted in one book! I decided to buy this and was worried about the time it will take to ship the book. Then I came across kindle for ipad and bought it right away and it's amazing and more efficient way to read a book! Very thanks to The author, Harry A Kinnison for this treasure! I would definitely recommend this to someone in my shoes or someone who wants to learn the big picture of aviation management !

back then it was eye opening and a good guide to see the whole picture

well I first read this book in 2010 when I was rather lacking experience on the operations and hangar maintenance side of the sector. back then it was eye opening and a good guide to see the whole picture. now after 4 years, 2 of which with hands on experience where I lacked earlier, I see that the information is brief and you may not find answers to all of your questions. still good guide. would be better if it also included whats going on on the other side of the Atlantic.
